sekadar berkongsi: tips to boost up your english

First of all, my English is not perfect because I'm still learning, but one of my pal, UMMIE FATHIAH asked me on how to perk up our english level, so here are some tips ^^,

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE CULTURE
WARNING, I'm not trying to soak you with the negative western culture! Everyone is smart enough to filter the information right? =P

i think this is not new because everyone is doing it. It can be as simple as watching movies, listen to music, and stuff [everything is in english of coz!] I reckon watching movies to learn English is pretty fun and not less complicated since the language is simple and in conversation terms. But if you're watching movies, It's preferred the subtitle to be in english as well.

If you're ready for the next level, go for music. To me, music is like poem. So, the language isn't something that you can throw in your daily talk. It depends on the genre. Pick the right genre which not only entertaining, but also to educate you ^^,

But if you wanna improve your writing, reading, and watching English news are among the best approaches.

WRITING TIPS

Speaking of writing, there might be some repetitive in your essay. Here's a tip, but you can only do this if you're doing some draft work. Try not to write the draft on paper, but in Microsoft Word instead.

Why?
you can avoid repetitive by using the thesaurus in Microsoft Word. highlight the word>right click>synonyms. There you go! It will suggest a few synonyms. Choose the one that is appropriate with the context of the sentence.

Here's an example to explain that case:

"constraint" and "restriction". Both words carry the same meaning but different in background story.

Constrain: lebih kepada menerangkan kekangan atau halangan dalam situasi tertentu dalam hidup kita.

restriction: juga bermaksud halangan tetapi cenderung kearah peraturan

VOICE OUT YOUR THOUGHT

This is one of the most important part of this post.  Try to speak in English with everyone! It could be during the class presentation, or any occasion that need us to speak in the front, take it seriously put a lot of commitment! It could be as random as ordering at the fast food or talking to the operator, it's your call.

Be confident in the first place. Screw the proficiency. If you are confident, it will show in your delivery, and the driven is what important for the learning process.

if your level of confident is high, perhaps one day you can speak on behalf of our country :) [btw, from left faiz, nazmi, nad and echa. They are my debate teammates wakil malaysia ke thailand for leadership presentation :)]

This one might sound stupid, but speak to yourself in english. kalau dah malu sgt kn, cakap dalam hati pon, make it English! we speak to our self everyday, so we are actually do practice like everyday. Practice makes perfect kn? ^^

Tapi kalau dah brani sangat, why don't you enter debate club or public speaking competition ;P

p/s~ try to search for inianwarhadi, ben bradshaw in facebook and youtube, SO, good luck Ummie! ^^,

THank you emma.

as we get to know it and live with it, we might possibly started to enjoy and overindulge it and that's kinda a dangerous point..so we need to be smart learning the language and the culture. :)
