I went like everywhere to redeem my phone rebate (since it's going to expire on the 1st February), but not all stores accept it. All Digi Stores will only accept the rebate by February. Luckily the CSL Store at Tesco Ipoh accept the rebate. Somehow the offer doesn't apply on all smartphones as what has been told in the news. The models left are Ninetology Stealth, Black Pearl 2, and Insight. So I bought the Ninetology Insight for my dad.
At first I was thinking to go for Ninetology Black Pearl 2.
It's a dual core 4inch IPS screen device by a local company originated from Sabah
(based on my research la)
But as I get to the store, the device is not that beautiful in real life.
It's worth the money I guess. Thanks to the RM200 phone rebate, anyone can now own a dual core smartphone at the price of RM399.
Then there's another model of Ninetology, the Insight. It's a beautiful 4.3inch IPS screen 1GHz dual core device. The price is RM699. The price after rebate is RM499.It's a little bit more expensive than the Black Pearl 2, but Insight looks luxury and high build quality as compared to Black Pearl 2 with the plastic cheap look. Insight is made of plastic too, but the front look is sleek and diamond black. Besides, Insight have the floating video feature which can only be found on Galaxy Note tab and phone I reckon.
Insight vs Black Pearl 2
Insight, 4.3inch IPS 240ppi
Black Pearl 2, 4inch IPS 244ppi
Theoretically, BP2 is supposed to project a better display quality, but in my hand Insight look more beautiful even though the ppi is lower. I reckon there's no significant different between 240ppi and 244ppi. The front look of Insight look luxurious as the screen turn off as it turned to pitch black glass. Unlike the BP2, as the screen turned off, the plastic frame surrounded with the ugly metal ring gave him the toy look.
Insight, front camera 2MP rear camera 8MP
Black Pearl 2, front camera 0.3MP rear camera 5MP
Both phone have the same quality for rear camera, but when it comes to front camera, Insight produce a sharper image with enough light from surrounding.
Insight, 1800 mAh
Black Pearl 2, 1600 mAh
I read some reviews about Black Pearl 2 said that the battery life of BP2 is quite disappointing. Somehow, I believe the MP2 battery is quite big for a smartphone in it's league. A random developer said that it's because of the kernel shit, damn I don't know what does it mean. Long story short, the processor is still running at the high speed even though the phone is in sleep.
I guess I know the solution. Root the phone, and manually set the CPU speed with any apps from the Blackmart or Google Play. I managed to make my Insight battery life stays much longer than before it was rooted and tweaked this way ;)
download the root software here.
It can be used on any ICS devices. I tried on Xperia U, Samsung Galaxy Pocket, Ninetology Insight and Hyundai A7HD.
